Modern Mosaics

Stevie Stevens is a NW Arkansas artist who concentrates in mixed media mosaics. Stevie is a member of SAMA (Society of American Mosaic Artists) and has studied with a number of contemporary artists from several countries.
Stevie was previously a landscape designer in Dallas, Texas and brings her love of nature into her current work. She spent the following years studying and practicing mosaic art, energy medicine, the world’s spiritual traditions, the evolution of consciousness, and personal empowerment. Mosaics are a perfect statement of repatterning the broken into the new.
Stevie loves to educate people about modern mosaics. Broken dishes come to mind, but Modern Mosaics include Italian or Mexican smalti (specialized mosaic tiles made from richly colored glass), crystals, stones, found objects, or ceramics crafted especially for the piece. Mosaic work is a form of meditation for Stevie that allows her to express beauty, spirit, and connection.
Her works are functional as well as decorative fine art. She has collaborated with clients to create kitchen and bathroom backsplashes, wall art, sculptures, and murals. Her process often starts with a concept sketch and she intuitively expands the projects to completion. Her designs are graceful, flowing, and meditative.
