    November 6, 2023 /

Brent was born in Cody, WY and spent the first 14 years of his childhood living in the small town of Basin, WY. After that his family moved to Artesia, NM, where he spent the next four years before going to the University of Oklahoma to study meteorology. He spent the subsequent 14 years in the Oklahoma City metro area. In late 2021 he made the move to northwest Arkansas (NWA) and now calls Springdale, AR home. Brent found his passion for photography after receiving a DSLR as a Christmas gift in 2007, after his first semester of college. Although a bit overwhelming at first, he slowly learned how to…

    Recycled Paper relief and tapestry

    November 1, 2023 /

When I started my artistic career, I looked to the most immediate and most abundant resource I had at my disposal, namely, junk mail. The prospect of reusing what was to become trash appealed to my concern for the environment. Moreover, the transformation of that which is worthless into something valuable resonated with my journey of reinventing my life. I now create tapestries, reliefs, and sculptures using office paper, magazines, newspapers, and phone books. I carefully sort through the material available to create a color palette. Then, I roll, coil, and weave to form different textures, shapes, and varying levels of relief. The result is a series of artworks that…

    introspective

    October 13, 2023 /

Since 2000, the Summer of the Pandemic, Trevor Segraves’ paintings have become introspective and nostalgic with recurring themes of childhood and childhood dreams. At times they reference the disturbing absurdity of curret affairs. Images of his childhood toys, notebook origami, memories of pop culture and classic art come together to create a new narrative. Notebook origami is used to evoke schoolboy dreams of far off adventures and journeys, while the toy paintings, many depicting the death of Howdy Doody, represent the death of American innocence or a change in the collective knowledge of what America is.
