Pet Portraits and other oil on canvas works.
These portraits are recent oil painting commissions by Rogers-based artist Stan Cox. He shared his works including a beautiful Collie mix and a German Shepherd. Stan darkens the backgrounds to create a stronger contrast that highlights the dog’s expressive faces. He shared that to date he has only painted three dog portraits—yet his natural talent is evident. For much of his life, Stan focused on doodling and drawing as his primary artistic outlet. “I struggled for many years trying to figure out how it was done,” he reflects. “With no formal training, I failed my way to where I am now. Penny
Penny is a Collie. Not sure of specific breed. I’m sure someone knows. This is a commission I just finished a few days ago. The background was darkened to create a better contrast in the dogs face. This is my third dog portrait that I’ve ever done. I like it!

Spinning the Sky
I paint to reconnect—with myself, with the world, with the kind of presence that feels like real freedom. After leaving a chaotic work life, I’m learning to build something slower, where painting isn’t just a reward after the grind, but the reason for it. Watercolors remind me to live fully in the present—to embrace rest, joy, and stillness as essential parts of life. Each piece pulses with that same energetic rhythm: a call to feel alive.

Blue Eyes
I was searching for my next display project. This lady’s blue eyes grabbed my attention. The next painting is of my granddaughter. She was about nine years old. Both paintings are oil medium on canvas and panel.

The Heart Castle
I was physically abused by my father when I went to visit him for the first time when I was 12 years old. This is a representation of locking my heart away. I felt unworthy of being loved after he tried to kill me several times over the course of 6 months. I chose Gelatissmo because they help children who have experienced the same trauma. I have a story that I wrote that goes along with the art piece written in fairytale form. There is healing through love.
