    Assemblage Sculptures by James Sawyer

    November 8, 2023 /

James K. Sawyer has a BFA from the University of Nebraska. During his time in school he was given an assignment to build a three dimensional “Pandora’s Box.” That was the beginning of a life long passion for the assemblage art form. His assemblage sculptures are created from any type of objects or materials. Jim says: “The only limits are the ones I put on myself. I lean towards using materials of interesting shape, surface, texture and that appear to have a history or story of their own. Creating assemblage is like participating in a “think tank” for junk.” Each of Jim’s pieces is like a puzzle with an undetermined…

Unique and whimsical sculptures by found metal object artist Tom Flynn.

    November 6, 2023 /

Tom Flynn, a lighting and electrical designer, has been creating sculptures for the last 15 years. Before Flynn’s calling to specialize in found object metal art, he was studying to be a Catholic priest and spent many years as a Benedictine monk. Flynn currently resides in Rogers, Arkansas, where his sculptures of lightning bugs are found throughout the city. ABOUT THE ART “I am often inspired by what I find. Each piece of metal has the potential to become something more than what it is when combined with other pieces of metal. I want you to see the whole object first before noticing that it is made out of shovels…

Environmental Relief and Tapestry Art Made of Recycled Paper

    November 6, 2023 /

When I started my artistic career, I looked to the most immediate and most abundant resource I had at my disposal, namely, junk mail. The prospect of reusing what was to become trash appealed to my concern for the environment. Moreover, the transformation of that which is worthless into something valuable resonated with my journey of reinventing my life. I now create tapestries, reliefs, and sculptures using office paper, magazines, newspapers, and phone books. I carefully sort through the material available to create a color palette. Then, I roll, coil, and weave to form different textures, shapes, and varying levels of relief. The result is a series of artworks that…
