Birds of a Feather
Artist: Jamie Brown — Free Bird Artistry
I’m Jamie Shipcoff Brown, a watercolor and multi-media artist with a passion for capturing the beauty and symbolism of the natural world in my work. Painting has been my creative outlet for as long as I can remember, a space where I find joy and peace. Growing up in Northwest Arkansas, I loved taking art classes as a kid, first in Rogers schools, and later the University of Arkansas. After college I moved to Upstate New York to attend graduate school and later start a family.
Though I set art aside during the busy years of raising my family, a profound personal loss in 2017 brought me back to my brushes. My father and I always shared a love of birdwatching, and when he passed, I felt drawn to paint a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak—a bird we once marveled at together. That single painting became a turning point in my life, rekindling my love for art and helping me navigate through grief.
What started as a healing journey soon blossomed into a new chapter. In 2020, I launched Free Bird Artistry, where I combine my love of nature and symbolism to create meaningful original pieces and custom works for clients. Every piece I paint tells a story, often incorporating subtle touches of symbolism that make it uniquely personal. I feel incredibly fortunate to share my work and passion with others.
