I have been fascinated since my earliest years with nature and how we intertwine with it. Whether it be the smallest flower or the clouds above I’ve always had the need to capture it. I have started incorporating digital art along with my photography In hopes of achieving fine art with an artistic flair.

My work is primarily crochet with PLARN (plastic yarn) made from recycled grocery bags and other upcycled materials. I do not use a pattern so all my bags are unique and dependent upon materials I have at the time, I love to use oddball fibers in a different or unusual way and my purpose is to reuse, repurpose and recycle as my depression era parents always said.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Belgian-born artist Joëlle Storet immigrated to the United States from Austria in 2001. She took inspiration starting at a young age from Belgian illustrations and the vast confluences of her Belgian-Congolese upbringing. Her artistic pedigree also draws from her late grandfather, Zamenga Batukezanga, who is known the world over for being the most popular and influential Congolese writer of his era. His folkloric works of fiction and his non-fiction documentations of Congolese culture painted her frame of reference for most of her life. I have experienced art lessons with different instructors over the years. My showing is a whimsical look back at the completed pieces . Plus some pieces I have done for friends.

The assemblage is a visual diary and a narrative of pandemic icons and personal responses to isolation during the 2020 health crisis. Each panel consists of columns of cardboard pieces suspended with copper wire from dowels. The illustrations and words are arranged in loose chronological order. Media – paint, markers, jute, recycled papers, copper and wood. Approximately 6 ‘ high and 12’ in length.

This piece is about the brevity of life and the fleeting nature of physical beauty. I chose to paint the social icon of both beauty and fashion, Audrey Hepburn, on a surface of cracked plaster which shows fragility and imperfection. Note- The first two pieces, Audrey and Marilyn would work for January’s theme of Pandemonium. The following two pieces ( Jeremiah and Joelle) would work for February’s theme of The Black Experience. The portrait of Jeremiah was sold to Jeremiah Pickett, a black musician here in NWA and is of course NFS.

The concept of aerial views of industrial parks fascinates me as the marks man makes on the land can be viewed as both ugly and beautiful. I find art in the structure and purpose of the railway station that is the focus of this painting. The red dirt roads I grew up around in Arkansas are a fond memory, and provide a strong contrast to the surroundings.

I’m constantly searching for truth and meaning in life through my interactions with others. Often times the only way I can express myself is through art.

“Milo”, is one of the first portraits I did in 2021. My philosophy of art is that any art that I enjoy making and others enjoy looking at is good art. I enjoy learning new techniques and gaining new insights into methods and materials related to art. I want to create art that makes my heart sing.

Stevie Stevens Modern Mosaics Stevie Stevens is a NW Arkansas artist who concentrates in mixed media mosaics. Stevie is a member of SAMA (Society of American Mosaic Artists) and has studied with a number of contemporary artists from several countries. Stevie was previously a landscape designer in Dallas, Texas and brings her love of nature into her current work. She spent the following years studying and practicing mosaic art, energy medicine, the world’s spiritual traditions, the evolution of consciousness, and personal empowerment.
