Artist: Aaron Jones — Arkansas Arts Academy
I identify myself as an expressive, tinkering, process artist. My work is a cauldron of mixed experiences, interests, and inspirations. Because I experiment in such a variety of media, genres and subject matter it’s difficult to categorize my work. Completed compositions are the end result of a curiosity or interest in a specific technique, medium, style or process.
I am drawn to the non-traditional and unorthodox. I pull inspiration from the mystery behind moralizing stories, spiritual beliefs from all cultures, historic events, scientific experiments, Gothic architecture and cinema, specifically classic horror and Sci-Fi films. My influences in visual art are Albert Pinkham Ryder, H.R. Giger, Francois Robert, Bert Long and John Paul Azzopardi.
I collect found objects such as bones, natural objects, fragments of machinery, broken items, cast off pieces and cigar boxes. I combine these pieces to create something…else. Something with traces of its former purpose, but also with new connections to something completely different, often inspired by an event, theme, memory or experience.
